The most important churches of Rome throughout the centuries, from Paleochristian art to the Medieval Age, from the Renaissance to the triumph of the Roman Baroque style. The mosaics of Santa Maria in Trastevere, the frescoes by Filippino Lippi in Santa Maria sopra Minerva, the Tempietto del Bramante, the triumph of Mannerism in the Oratorio del Gonfalone, Lanfranco and Domenichino in the church of Sant’Andrea della Valle, the two baroque domes in the Chiesa del Gesù and the Sant’ Ignazio Church, the Caravaggios in San Luigi dei Francesi, Santa Maria del Popolo and Sant’Agostino, the grand architecture by Bernini and Borromini. This series provides an overview of famous works of art and important artists, with focus on the masterpieces as well as on the general context; paintings and sculptures, decorations and stuccos, that were used to enhance the building.
